The Maple Leaf Singers dedicate this year’s performance to the memory of a
long-time member and dear friend, Lynne Pavey. Lynne’s passion for music and
singing lead her to join the Maple Leaf Singers in 1989. Her beautiful
soprano voice was a tremendous complement to the choir and she also performed
many solos over the years. Her enthusiasm for life and love of music was
obvious to all.
When George and Marie Gillis retired, having directed and
managed the choir for 33 years, Lynne was instrumental in the transition. She
worked tirelessly at keeping the group organized; no one knew all that she
did, and she preferred it that way. Lynne left the Maple Leaf Singers in 2002
but continued to support the choir by taking on the important task of Stage
Manager for the spring shows at Massey Theatre.
Lynne passed away in January 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. She
touched our lives and will be remembered for her bright smile, warmth and
kindness, and passion for singing and life.
In her honour, the Maple Leaf
Singers will participate in the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in
North Vancouver on June 12, 2010. We hope that you can offer your support in
our fund-raising endeavour. Funds raised will help the Canadian Cancer
Society save lives by funding leading cancer research, offering support
services to those in need and leading prevention initiatives.
Update: The Relay for Life was a huge
success with our team raising $4452.55 and the entire event raising over
$230,000. Our sincere thanks for your support.
